Instructions
Sit in a circle with the Squirrels: do this activity outside if possible.
Leader asks: 'What is mental health?'
(Mental health refers to the way we think, feel and act. Everybody has mental health, the same way everybody has physical health, and we all need to look after it.)
'How can we help ourselves to have good mental health?'
(Answers may include:
• Making friends
• Being active
• Taking notice of our surroundings
• Being creative and learning
• Helping others
• Spending time in nature and with animals
• Doing something you enjoy).
Activity
• Go around the circle and each say something that was good about your day. (Focus on the positive.)
• Next, use the five senses (can the Squirrels name them?). Go round the circle and name something you can see/touch/hear/smell/taste at the moment. (Practising mindfulness.)
If time
• Come back into the hut and draw a picture of something that makes you happy.
