Balls or Sponges

Instructions

Equipment:
Something for team races - Balls or sponges.
-If doing water races then one sponge per group plus two buckets per group, one filled with water.
- If dry then one ball per group.

Groups:
Preferably sixes. Combine to get close to even numbers.

Warm up : this is part of the athletics badge. Whilst one leader organises this the others can set up the races. They also need to do a warm down routine. Suggest should and ankle rolls and small movements on the spot as this will help if other equipment is being set up.

Races:

Racing in their teams as relays is probably the easiest way to keep them all engaged through each race.
Two of the following (sprint and skip is maybe easiest?)
-shuttle run 6 x 10m
-50m skip with a rope
-50m sprint
-25m sack race
-25m egg and spoon race
-400m run
Take part in one of these team activities:
-4 x 100m relay
-team assault course (This could be the sponge or ball race)
-assisted blindfold race
Do one of these jumps and go as far or as high as you can:
-sargent jump
-standing jump
-high jump
-long jump
Extra race ideas:
-Paired races - wheelbarrow / piggy back
-Carpet races - pass the carpets to get to the end.
-Crab crawling race


Cool Down:
They need to do this for the athletics badge but it can be whatever you choose. Maybe get them in a circle and they each choose a movement for 10 seconds or something?
