Description
Cook pancakes on tins
Resources
Tin piercers (or drill) - Leaders only
Scales
Bowl per Six
Big tealights (~ half inch tall)
Tin per Cub
Plate per tin
Fork and dinner knife per cub
Any extra utensils/crockery needed for recipe
Lemon juice and sugar for toppings
Table per Six
Lighters
Oil for top of tin
Tablespoon per Six
Hair ties for long hair
Instructions
Hair up
Neckers off or tucked in
Wash hands
Make the batter (leader to pierce and tins that require it)
Put candle in centre of plate and light
Put tin over candle
Put oil on tin base (now on top)
Once hot (try pouring out some melted wax if the flame is too small) put a tablespoon of batter on the tin to cook
Use fork to hold the tin and use the knife as a spatula to turn pancake over
Once finished, extinguish the flame (if not cooking more), add topping(s) and eat
Wash up
Options:
1. Use baking paper rather than oiling the top, a second piece of baking paper on top meant they could easily flip it over, and nothing stuck. Most managed a couple of pancakes each in the session
2. Use tuna tins. They made their own batter in a mug (1 egg, 2 heaped dessert spoons flour and thinned with a little milk). Butter to stop them sticking. By using a small can and making a small pancake, they had time to cook several each.
