Description

'Frame it' scavenger hunt (Leave no Trace)

Resources

A shaped frame made from cardboard (example: a cereal or packaging box); a list of items or ideas to find; a camera or phone per group

Instructions

Ask the girls to bring in a shaped frame cut from a cereal or packaging box. This can be prearranged with parents and decorated at home or in the meeting in advance of the scavenger hunt evening. Words or expressions like ‘My Nature Heart’; ‘I Love Nature’; ‘We Care for the Environment’; ‘Nature Scavenger Hunt’; ‘Caring for Nature’; ‘Our World’ etc can be used. They could also simply colour and decorate instead.
Girls are divided into groups with a Leader who has a camera and a list of items the girls must find and make a picture of. The Leader can take photos of the pictures as they are being created by the girls. Hold the frame against the object - trees, leaves, flowers etc - to create beautiful photos. Examples: A bird, water, wild flowers, an animal, grass, trees, an insect, seeds; items of various colours — or simply let them use their imagination.
Remember to keep the correct adult-to-child ratio when outdoors. Have a brief discussion on ‘Leave No Trace’, in particular ‘Leave What You Find’. Discuss the Safe Cross Code before leaving.
