Discussion about fires
1. Explain what action should be taken and why, if you discover a fire has broken out in the home or at camp.
Keep doors and windows shut
How to call the fire brigade
1.A) Show common tools found at a scout campsite for fire fighting - fire buckets, fire blankets, fire beaters, fire extinguishers.
2. Explain the process of combustion and the fire triangle.
Explain fire triangle, how each side is needed for a fire. Relate to how we make campfires
3. Explain the effects of smoke and heat and how to act in smoke.
Explain the effects of smoke on your breathing (soar dry throat, unable to breathe, many people die of suffocation before the flames get to them)
If you cant get out, get to a window
4. Show them the fire action plan for the scout hut
(Get to safety, setting off the alarm on your way out (If practical) while shouting fire, call 999)
