Marshmallow Ghost Stack Competition

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Who can build the tallest ghostly tower? One thing's for sure: the results will be delicious.

Usually, this is a team STEM activity.

Using food-safe markers to make the ghost faces the night before, the young people build and explore together, seeing what they can create.

Who can build the highest tower? And the more creative, the better

To take it further, you could let the young people draw the faces themselves.

Instructions

Split the section into small groups, no more than four per group and provide them with a pack of marshmallows and around 20 lolly pop sticks. You can experiment with different numbers of marshmallows and sticks based on your group size.

Give each group 3 minutes to come up with a plan. During this time, they cannot use any of the materials and must only discuss how they will approach the task.

Once the 3 minutes is up, each group will then have 15 minutes to build their towers. They can build the towers in any shape or size they wish, but the tower must be freestanding and will need to stand unsupported for 60 seconds.

After all towers have been tested, any towers left standing will then be measured to see which is the tallest. This tower wins.
