Description
Decorating ceramic baubles in two sessions: first for the base coat, second for the picture.
Resources
Ceramic Baubles from Hobbycraft: at least enough for each Scout, however, a few spare is advisable especially to have a demonstration bauble.
A list of activities that Scouts have done.
Acrylic paint of various colours, however, have these minimum:
- White,
- Black,
- Blue,
- Red,
- Yellow.
- Silver
- Gold
Paint brushes for broad and fine details.
Sheets of paper, between A5 and A4 in size.
Pencils or pens.
Small plates or paper towels to prevent the bauble rolling away.
Masking tape.
Instructions
Scouts should not wear Scout shirt or neckie when using acrylic paint.

Decide on a theme for the pictures, e.g. a Scouting activity you have taken part in.
Session One - 30 minutes
1. Give the Scouts a piece of paper and a pencil.
2. The Scouts should draw a circle, about the size of the bauble. you could use a cup or mug to draw around.
3. Scouts must draw a picture of one of the things from the list of activities they have done at Scouts.
4. The Scouts must also indicate what the background colour is.
5. Name Tape: Give each Scout a short piece of masking tape, ask them to wrap it around the hanging cord leaving space to write their name on it and then have each Scout write their name on the tape label.
6. Base Coat: Each Scout should paint the base coat on their bauble.

Session two - 30 minutes
1. Using paint brushes for fine detail each Scout should paint the image they drew previously.
2. Set aside to dry.
