Instructions
Ask local history group for information about local people/locations relating to a war, ideally some would be from your local war memorial - you want short stories the YPs can read out. Are there any stories about young soldiers, refugees that might have been the same/similar age to the YPs (e.g. we found the story of a Girl Guide who was evacuated to live with a local family).
Plot the stop points on a map (YPs to do this towards more of the Navigator badges, or you could do this in advance if you think you might be short on time).
Explain the rules about walking, crossing roads, etc.
Walk to each of the stop points, getting the YPs to read out the stories you have from the local history group relevant to that area (or nearby - don't stop outside people's homes if you can help it, they may not want a bunch of people talking outside their window!).
Your final stop could be at the local war memorial were you can ask the YPs to look at the names and see if they can find any from he stories they have heard.
Choose a YP to read the In Flanders Fields poem.
