Description

Make your own butter.

Resources

250g Plain white flour
250g Plain wholemeal flour
1000g porridge oats
One teaspoon bread soda
One teaspoon salt
25g Butter (cut into pieces)
500ml Buttermilk

Instructions

Soda bread scones

As many of the Brownies have already made (or will
make) volcanoes in school, explain how the acid/
base reaction is the same in this recipe. You can
even show them this using some of the bread soda
and a little lemon juice or vinegar.

Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 200C or 180 Fan. Dust a baking
sheet with flour.
Step 2:
Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl and rub in the
butter. Pour in the buttermilk and bring the dough
together using a knife, do not over mix it.
Step 3:
Divide the mixture into scones and gently put onto
the dusted tray. Bake for 15 minutes.
Step 4:
Allow to cool before eating. Add some of the
homemade butter you made
