"The Big Vaping Debate" discussion questions

Instructions

1. Have a copy of ‘The Big Vaping Debate’ discussion questions. This contains eight discussion questions that will help you to explore the different sides of the debate around vaping and encourage young people to consider where they stand.
2. Create an agreement line, with one end of the room nominated as ‘Strongly Agree’ and the other end of the room labelled ‘Strongly Disagree’.
3. Read out one of the statements, before giving time for everyone to consider their thoughts. Then ask everyone to stand somewhere along the agreement line, based on their views. This could be at one of the extremes (i.e. strongly agree) or anywhere in between (i.e. slightly agree, unsure, disagree).
4. Once everyone has settled on a position, people should start explaining why they stood where they have. There may be a whole range of opinions, so time should be allowed to explore the different opinions and the reasons behind each one. Where there isn’t a range of opinions, leaders should try to offer the opposite views, to encourage debate.
5. Continue, going through several discussion questions and debating the various viewpoints.
6. Please note: It’s important that all young peoples’ views are respected and heard. There are no right or wrong answers in this activity – it’s all about discussing and debating.
