Learn square lashings

Resources

For each group
- 1 scout stave per person + 1
- 1 piece of rope per person
- 2 chairs per group

Instructions

1. Place a horizontal scout stave between two chairs.
2. Recap tying clove hitches on the horizontal bar. Young people to assist each other until everyone can tie it.
3. Demonstrate how do a square lashing.
4. In pairs, young people tie square lashing. The partner holds the staves steady whilst the other ties the square lashing.
5. Partners switch over.

If anyone finishes early they should assist other pairs who are struggling.

If a group finishes early they should tie an A frame or Scout trestle using square lashings.
