Blindfolded Vegetables

Description
Whilst blindfolded, will you be able to find the correct vegetable on the table in front of you, before someone else can?
Did you know
A tomato is a fruit, but some people think it’s a vegetable.
Potatoes are the best-selling vegetables in the world.
Turnip is the UK’s least favourite vegetable.
The aubergine is also called an eggplant and in Italy is known as a “crazy apple”.
Resources
A collection of 10 vegetables, to include similar shaped vegetables (e.g. carrot, parsnip, potato, turnip, leek, celery, cauliflower, broccoli etc)
2/3 blindfolds
Instructions
1) Start the activity by introducing the selection of vegetables to the children. Allow the group to look at the vegetables. Can they name them all? Have they tasted them all before? Which is their favourite one?
2) Divide the group into 2 or 3 teams, standing on different sides of the table.
3) Each team should nominate a team member to go first. The first child from each team stands beside the table and is blindfolded. The rest of the team need to step back and should not speak or help their team member.
4) A leader says the name of a vegetable. The blindfolded children need to find the vegetable, feel it to make sure it is the correct vegetable and then hold it up high when found. The first team to hold up the correct vegetable is the winner.
5) Team members take it in turns to be blindfolded. Leaders should move the vegetables around before naming the next vegetable, so the children do not know where the vegetables are.
6) The team with the most points at the end of the activity is the winner.
