Description
Create a dummy for CPR practice
Resources
A face per Scout - eg a paper plate that has been coloured in by Scouts, or a printout of someone's face, paper plate sized.
Per Scout
A pedal bin bin liner
A jumper
Stuffing - eg a sleeping bag
An empty 2lt bottle with the lid firmly on.
A coat hanger
A face (see above)
Double sided sticky tape, or blue tac
Optional - songs such as Staying Alive and means to play them. Eg https://www.firstresponse-ed.com/blog/the-great-cpr-song-list/
Instructions
A face is needed per Scout - this could be a paper plate with a face drawn on it. Or it could be a print out of someone's face.
To make the body - stuff the skin (bin bag) with something like a sleeping bag. Stuff the empty plastic bottle inside, lengthways, with the top pointing to the open end of the bag.
Put a jumper on the body, ie stuff the stuffed binliner inside the jumper. The top of the bottle is still lengthways and the top pointing towards the neck of the jumper.
Add a head - stick the coat hanger inside the jumper as though to hang it up. This forms the shoulders and the neck. Stick the face to the top of the hanger.
Now you have a dummy. The plastic bottle gives some resistence when performing CPR. It also makes a crackling noise, to represent ribs. This makes it all more realistic.
Now Scouts can perform CPR, perhaps to a song such as Staying Alive.
They could also use the Pizza Box AED. This dummy has "skin" (aka a bin liner) so the jumper can be lifted up to place the pads. https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/programme.php?action=view&id=81732
