Airfix over 2 weeks

This is based on the 1:75 spitfire kit

Resources

Groundsheet
Small Airfix kit (pieces, paint, brush, glue, instructions) per YP
At least 1 Airfix kit for a leader to build in advance as a demo
Tables (3 YPs per table)
Chairs
Paper
Sharpies
Cups of water
Bin bag

Instructions

Week 1
Prep
Groundsheet out under tables
Tables (3 YPs per table)
Cover the tables with paper.
Open windows and put fans on (fan heaters if cold) for ventilation
Cups of water

Activity
Give out the kits to each YP.

Explain what is in each pack - DO NOT GET ANYTHING OUT YET
- Instruction sheet
- Paint and sticker placement diagram
- Paint brush - with a plastic cap on - Don’t lose the cap - it’ll help keep your brush protected so you can finish off painting next week
- Paints - Do your best to not get this anywhere other than on the brush and model - use small amounts of paint and add more as needed - it’s easier to keep your model tidy, yourself and table clean if you use small amounts at a time. Paint one colour at a time, clean your brush well between colours, but note you don’t need to add water to the paint, but the paint pots will need shaking BEFORE they are opened
- Glue - use small amounts of glue only where it says to add it in the instructions - squeeze the tube VERY gently. Put the lid back on

Take out the instruction sheet
- Explain the different symbols (glue/no glue, paint, design options)
- Where should they get to (step 6 - main painting step)

Take ot the kit panels
Write your initials on the stand using the Sharpies
Recommend building the stand first - this will help with holding the plane during painting step later

Week 2
Prep
Groundsheet out under tables
Tables (3 YPs per table)
Cover the tables with paper.
Open windows and put fans on (fan heaters if cold) for ventilation
Cups of water

Activity
Half an hour to finish off painting and last few build steps

Get cubs to tidy up leaving their bag of bits and plane on their table - have 1 leader taking "squadron" photos and move them all on to 1 table while the cubs do the other bases (put other tables, chairs, etc away)

Base 1: Talk to the cubs:
- Learn the safety rules for your hobby, if there are any.
- Show that you’re interested in your hobby and that you’re taking
part regularly for at least three months.

Base 2: Talk to the cubs:
- Show your leader, or other Cubs, how you pursue your hobby. Show
what equipment, materials and background information you have
used.
- Talk to your leader about how you plan to develop your hobby,
interest or skill in the future.

Base 3: Youtube videos (need laptop and wifi):
- How to stick on stickers (start time 22.44): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdPqeiXcxxw&list=PLujOlA0EuuHAZpwcXBsKlOSVGlbpzGP6M&index=9&t=1365s
