Address to a Haggis
This poem was written by Robert Burns to celebrate his appreciation of the Haggis. As a result Burns and Haggis have been forever linked.
This particular poem is always the first item on the programme of Burns' suppers. The haggis is generally carried in on a silver salver at the start of the proceedings.
As it is brought to the table a piper plays a suitable, rousing accompaniment.
One of the invited artistes then recites the poem before the theatrical cutting of the haggis with the ceremonial knife.
Share the spreadsheet and Cubs to work together to put the verses in the correct order (use breakout rooms if necessary, but make sure each room has a copy of the spreadsheet).

Tartan weaving/kilt making
Examples of tartan
Cut the large piece of paper to fit around your teddy’s waist (a bit of overlap is best).
Fold the piece of paper in half by bringing the shorter sides together.
Cut the large piece of paper from the fold (so you’re not cutting the edges of the paper). Make sure you don’t cut all the way and through the ends as you want it to hold together.
Open up the fold and lay the paper flat, long edge closest to you (this will be the bottom of your kilt). This is the base for the kilt.
Cut strips of different coloured paper to the same height as the kilt base, and cut into smaller pieces (top to bottom) so they can be woven into your kilt. In total you’ll need enough to go across the whole kilt.
They can be different thicknesses and colours giving more detail to your tartan.
Weave the small strips of paper in and out of the slits in your tartan base. Use tape to secure the ends if needed.
Wrap your kilt around your teddy and use another piece of tape to seal it (you can use a paperclip if you prefer but it might not hold as well).
Caber Toss/Bottle flip challenge
Have you ever been walking down the road and looked up at a telephone pole and thought to yourself, “I think I could toss that with my bare hands”? Well the gents who participate in the Scottish sport of caber tossing prove that it can be done.
The caber toss is a popular segment of any Highland Games. A sport that goes back a few hundred years and is believe to have originated in the times of war as a means of battle or bridge building.
The caber is approximately 16-20 feet in length and weighing an average of 100 plus pounds. An athlete will cup both hands under the bottom of the caber and while running forward with great strength and balance, throw the caber into the air so that the caber will flip 180 degrees, implant its top end into the ground, and roll over. The object of the game is for the caber to land in a straight line away from the athlete and is judged by its proximity to the athlete in the manner of a clock’s hand with 12 o’clock being the best score.
The caber is made of wood, is tall and very heavy. The athletes who participate in this event have strength and balance that takes years of practice to master. So if the idea of running with a telephone pole and hurling it with all you might sounds like a good time, then you might want to watch for the next Scottish Highland Games that comes to your town and sign up to participate in this ancient sport of skill and strength.

Bottle flipping is a act that involves throwing a plastic bottle, typically partially full of liquid, into the air so that it rotates, in an attempt to land it upright on its base or cap. It became an international trend in late 2016, with numerous videos of people attempting the activity being posted online.
