Expedition Chat
Resources
Tables
Chairs
Pens
Paper
Ask older Scouts (who will be doing their Expedition Challenge soon) to come together.
Discuss:
What will they be doing?
What will they do about food?
How will they store and cook it?
Anyone in the group have dietary requirements or allergies?
Is it overnight? Where will they be staying?
If hiking:
Do they know how to plan a route?
How to pack a rucksack properly?
Can they read a map/compass?
Do they know the Countryside Code?
If camping:
Night Away permit/passport required? (if this is an activity outside of Scouting but is just being counted towards badgework, this is not required)
Do they know how to pitch and strike the tent they’re taking?
Basic tent repairs?
What will they do about rubbish?
With who?
Any parents/leaders attending or can be emergency contact?
When?
Where?
Transport needed?
Cost?
Do they need to apply to the Group for any funds or will parents cover it (if this is an activity outside of Scouting but is just being counted towards badgework, the Group will not contribute towards the cost)
Equipment list
How are they transporting any large pieces of equipment?
Anything from the Troop or Group?
Risk assessment
When will this be submitted and by who (all should contribute, but 1 person needs to take responsibility for submitting)?
What’s their plan if there is an emergency?
Prep work required (e.g. route plan, site bookings, etc.)?
When will this be done and by who?
Is it feasible or do adjustments need to be made?
Remind them about doing a presentation afterwards
