Ice Cream in a Bag
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Cubs will learn about the science of freezing and the concept of mixture while making their own ice cream using simple ingredients.
Resources
- Small zip-lock bags
- Large zip-lock bags
- Ice
- Salt (rock salt or table salt works)
- Milk
- Sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Optional toppings (chocolate sauce, sprinkles, etc.)
Instructions
1. Gather materials: each Cub will need a small zip-lock bag, a larger zip-lock bag, ice, and salt.
2. In the small bag, combine 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Seal the bag tightly, ensuring no air is inside.
3. Fill the larger bag halfway with ice and add 1/2 cup of salt.
4. Place the small bag inside the larger bag and seal the larger bag tightly.
5. Shake the bags vigorously for about 5-10 minutes. The salt will lower the freezing point of the ice, allowing the mixture in the small bag to freeze into ice cream.
6. Once the mixture has thickened, remove the small bag, wipe it off, and make sure there are no leaks.
7. Open the small bag and enjoy the ice cream with any desired toppings, such as chocolate sauce or sprinkles.
