Arithmetic stream dip

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

We have a shallow safe steam nearby but you could use a large paddling pool.
Once tired of not catching any small fish because they are too noisy expand the stream dip into a team work challenge.

Resources

Pond dip net per Beaver. lots of corks or wooden lolly sticks. Wellingtons, shallow safe stream. Towel! Marker pen.

Instructions

When the Beavers get fed up of just catching water bugs and no little fish as they are too noisy, turn it into a team work game.
Collect loads of corks or buy them from craft stores, or use wooden lolly sticks.
Number the corks or lolly sticks 1 - 10 NB you are going to need a lot.
Divide the Beavers into 4 teams and designate an area for each team to place their catch, ideally it should be quite away from the stream so Beavers have to work to get their catch to their area.
Set the boundary area in the stream and place a leader/helper at the boundaries. The stream should be no more than ankle deep.
Throw in the numbered corks or lolly sticks and the Beavers then paddle in their wellies to collect a cork or stick, they can only catch one at a time and take it back to their team area. Corks/sticks that go past the boundary area can be scooped up by the leaders at the boundary and returned to the game area. Any that escape the play area will not damage the environment as they are biodegradable. Explain this to the Beavers.
Once all the numbered items have been caught and placed in their team area the Beavers then add up their teams score.
