Scout Law Pair Matching

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

An interactive game that helps Scouts learn and remember the laws and values while promoting communication, teamwork, and listening skills.

Resources

- 2 identical sets of cards cards, each with one of the Scout laws or values written on it, plus a few spares.
- A designated space for participants to move around safely.
- A stopwatch

Instructions

1. Hand a card out to every Scout. Make sure there's a matching pair for each Scout. Use one of your spare cards if there's an odd number to make one set of three.
2. Shuffle the cards and distribute one card to each member.
3. Instruct the Scouts that they must all start to walk around, reading their card aloud, and find the Cub/Scout with the matching card. Instruct the Cubs/Scouts to move to the side of the room once they have their matching Scout (if you have handed out a third card you can let them know which card needs a group of three).
5. Count them down, and start the stopwatch when you say go.
6. For the first round, allow Scouts to shout out all at the same time to find their matches.
7. Once they form pairs, stop the clock. Give the Scouts their time and discuss how that was quite chaotic and a bit confusing.
8. For the second round, instruct them to take turns shouting out their card, allowing one at a time to speak while the others listen. Any matching Scouts can pair up with the speaker and move to the side. Countdown and start the game as before.
9. After the clock is stopped, discuss how much easier it is to find matches when everyone takes turns and listens.
