Penguin Pile-on
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
This activity explores the effects of climate change and habitat loss on
the polar ice caps and how this impacts animals that live in those
regions, and encourages the girls to learn about SDG 13 Climate Action
using teamwork and creative problem solving.
Resources
✓ Large blankets/bedsheets or A2/A3 sheets of paper.
Instructions
1. Leaders should split girls into multiple groups consisting of 2-5 people, these are the ‘penguin huddles’.
2. Supply each group with a sheet.
3. Lay the sheet on the ground, this is the ‘iceberg’.
4. Call out “Huddle” to instruct the girls to fit everyone in their group on the sheet within 10 seconds. They must remain on the sheet for another 10 seconds.
5. When they have done this, call “Swim” to instruct the girls to get off of their sheet and fold their sheet in half.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5. If a group does not fit every member on their sheet, or lose their balance within the 10 seconds, they are eliminated.
7. This is repeated until there is one group remaining, the champion penguins.
