Resources

ropes, open area outside

Instructions

1. Gather at a large open area. Use a length of rope to create a circle on the ground.
2. Assign one Scout to represent the Earth, another to represent the Moon, and one to represent the Sun.
3. Instruct the Earth Scout to stand in the middle and hold the rope while spinning around slowly, representing Earth's rotation.
4. The Moon Scout should walk around the Earth Scout, pulling gently on the rope to show the gravitational pull and tides.
5. Finally, introduce the Sun Scout at the opposite end of the rope and explain how the Sun's gravity also influences tides.
6. Wrap up by discussing how the gravitational pull of the Moon creates high and low tides and the significance of this in our ecosystem.
