Description

Scouts will learn about chemical reactions and Newton’s Third Law of Motion by building and launching small rockets using plastic film canisters, water, and Alka-Seltzer tablets.

Plastic film canister with lid
Water
Alka-Seltzer tablet
Tray/ flat bottomed container
Safety Glasses

Instructions

1. Fill the film canister about one-third of the way full with water.
2. Make sure you are wearing your safety glasses.
3. Break one Alka-Seltzer tablet in half.
4. Drop the half of the Alka-Seltzer tablet in the water and quickly put the lid on the film canister.
5. While still moving quickly, flip your Film Canister Rocket over and set it on its lid in the tray.
6. Step away and watch.
7. Your Film Canister Rocket should launch in a few seconds.
