Description
Chocolate Orange Cake
Resources
large orange
all-purpose flour
cane sugar
cocoa powder
baking powder
salt
oil (any cooking will do but I like olive or avocado oil)
water or orange juice
chocolate chips
heavy-duty aluminum foil
Instructions
This chocolate orange campfire cake is such an easy dessert to make while camping! You only need a few simple ingredients and a campfire.
1. Cut the tops of the oranges off and set them aside. Leave some of the orange in the skin to avoid getting any bitter pith in the cake.
2. Scoop out the orange while leaving the skin intact and preserve the juice. A grapefruit spoon can work well.)
3. Mix all the dry ingredients and chocolate chips together in a bowl.
4. Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix them well with a spoon or fork.
5. Fill the oranges with cake batter until they are about 3/4 to the top.
6. Place the lids on top of each orange and wrap it with the heavy-duty aluminum foil.
7. Set wrapped oranges, cut side up, in the campfire coals, and cook until done (about 10 minutes). If you want to be sure they are done, stick a knife in one and see if it comes out clean! If not done, cook the cake for a few more minutes.
8. Remove from coals and allow to cool. Serve warm.
