Description

A line based walking game suitable for Anchors and Juniors

Resources

Lined Court (Football, badminton, basketball etc.)
Laminated ‘acorns’ (Squirrel Collect 1B) – Can use other markers.
Recommended 10-15 per boy
Team identifiers (bands, jumpers etc.)
Whistle/Bird call

Instructions

Select 2/3 boys to be the Trees (officers can be Trees if required) – All others are
Squirrels
Get the Squirrels to scatter around the edge of the court spacing themselves out
ensuring they stay on the lines
There are 2 options for Trees:
1. Trees can move freely around the court but must start at the centre.
Rules 1-3 do not apply.
2. Trees must stay on the lines too and start on opposite corners. All
rules apply
Start the game by calling “The acorns are falling”
Boys are now free to move around on the lines.
Each time the officer blows the whistle/bird call Trees drop 1 acorn on the line
they are at/closest to.
Squirrels should aim to collect as many acorns as possible individually
Continue the game until all acorns are collected or, if short of time, call out
“Watch Out! There’s a dog about” which is when boys should run off the court.
