A fun and hands-on Cubs session all about bees! Cubs learn why bees are important, discover different types of bees, explore what pollination means, and build bee hotels to help solitary bees find safe places to rest and lay eggs.


Resources

Bamboo canes (various diameters, cut to size)

Garden twine or string

Secateurs or saws (adult use only)

Projector/laptop (if using a slide presentation)

Instructions

Bee Breathing & Mindfulness – Bee Present!
Play a short calming video to help Cubs settle and focus, introducing the idea of being mindful like a calm, buzzing bee.

Presentation: Bee Facts
Use the colourful slides attached to teach Cubs about:
1. The three types of bees (Honeybees, Bumblebees, Solitary Bees)
2. Why bees are important
3. What pollination is
4. How to help bees
4. Fun facts

Build a Bamboo Bee Hotel
Cubs work in small groups or individually to build their own bee hotels using bamboo tubes and string. Adults help where cutting is needed. Highlight how their hotels will support local solitary bees.

Mini-Game or Bee Quiz
Run a short, interactive quiz to reinforce learning with four fun questions. They are part of the deck

Closing Message
Reflect with Cubs: what did they learn, what surprised them, and how can they help bees? End with a smile and:
