Book Character Charades

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

In this activity, Beavers will act out book characters without speaking, while others guess who they are, encouraging discussions about literature.

Resources

- Paper slips with book character names
- A hat or box to draw the slips from
- Timer (optional)

Instructions

1. Before the session, prepare a list of popular book characters, aiming for a mix of classic and contemporary choices that Beavers are likely to know (e.g., Harry Potter, Matilda, the Very Hungry Caterpillar).
2. Split Beavers into two teams for friendly competition.
3. One Beaver from Team A will pick a character from a hat (the hat should contain the names of the characters you've prepared).
4. The Beaver will then act out the character without using any words or sounds, while their team has one minute to guess who it is.
5. If the team guesses correctly, they earn a point; if not, the other team has a chance to steal the point by guessing within 10 seconds.
6. Alternate turns between the teams until each Beaver has had at least one turn to act.
7. Conclude by discussing why each character is important and what kind of stories they come from.
