Description

Build your rugby skills, with our ‘Try Time Challenge’. You’ll need to score points by throwing or kicking a rugby ball accurately into targets. Have you got what it takes to be crowned the Try Time Challenge champion?

Resources

Rugby Balls
Buckets, Boxes, Hoops or Bins (to serve as targets)
Cones or Tape (to mark throw/kick lines)
Whiteboard or Chart (for keeping score – optional)

Instructions

The Stations

Set up 3–5 target stations around the room, such as:

Drop Kick Bucket: Place a large bucket or bin at a distance. Players must drop the ball and kick it into the bucket.
Pass Through the Posts: Hang or prop a hoop at shoulder height (or make two cones for a goalpost) and pass the ball cleanly through.
Knock Down: Place 3-5 cones, bottles, skittles, or cups on a table. Players throw the ball to knock them over.
Rolling Try: Roll the ball so it stops inside a taped-off square try zone.
Accuracy Circle: Place hoops on the floor at different distances for players to try and land the ball in. Closer hoops score fewer points, further hoops score more.

The Try Time Challenge

Each player/team rotates through all stations, getting 2-3 attempts per station.
Players try to score as many points as they can at each station.
This activity could be played individually or in teams. Keep a track of the scores as you go along.
After everyone has played all stations, add up the points and celebrate the winner(s).

Scoring Example

Drop Kick Bucket = 10 points per successful drop kick.
Pass Through the Posts = 5 points for each clean pass.
Knock Down = 1 point per cone knocked.
Rolling Try = 5 points for landing the ball in the square.
Accuracy Circle = 2 / 4 / 6 points depending on distance.
