The dance leader is going to lead us through building a group dance with three sections, sections of dance can be called motifs.
Meeting notes
18:10
• Warm up: bring attention to resting heart rate, moving around in the space, at a jog and changing direction, when Lark calls:
- 1: jump
- 2: balance; bring attention to raised heart rate.
• Gentle stretch: while stretching discuss the importance of exercise, and importance of raising our heart rate in our warm-up - our muscles are going to be working hard, needing oxygen.
18:15
• Motif 1 - sparkler name movements. Lark will lead us through building movement from the idea of writing our name with a sparkler:
- Write our names in the space in front of us;
- Write our names, over stretching each stroke of each letter and moving with jumps/turns
- Write our names with each letter stroke abstracted in movement – each letter movement known to the dancer but not necessarily recognisable to the observer.
18:20
• Motif 2 - can you follow your elbow/hand/feet/back/chin (body parts lead your movement through the space);
18:25
• Motif 3 - run, jump & roll - and how to motif develop.
- Lark to show how to roll from a jump, and how to get back up again, to repeat;
- Explore how to vary dynamics of the run, jump & roll
18:30
• Build into a performance: Motif 1 coming from the back of the space; Motif 2 moving through the middle of the space and Motif 3 moving across the front from left to right.
18:40
• Beavers to split into two groups to perform and watch each other.
18:50
• Squash & biscuits: what did we enjoy most? Performing or being the audience? Which motifs did we enjoy most, can we say why?
End of meeting notes
18:55
Transition to upstairs meeting space, with kids disco tunes, disco lights, tinsel pom poms & coloured ribbons approximately 3-4 songs, and finish with gentle stretching / mindful cool down.
PLEASE NOTE: If the session isn't well received by the majority of the group, and there's little participation, Lark will collect the freeplay disco dance resources to explore downstairs.
