Description
Based on "Money Matters. Let's talk about it" activity on Scouts UK web-site: https://www.scouts.org.uk/activities/money-matters-lets-talk-about-it/
Teams each have a tricky scenario that they need to reflect on. Afterwards, groups get back together and a Scouts go through someo f their responses and discuss.
If a Scout feels uncomfortable or would like to talk privately, they should either put a star (or similar symbol) on their response or approach a Leader.
Resources
Scenario cards with space to write down results of team's discussion.
Instructions
Scouts are split into teams, each given a scenario. Scouts are either given a scenario or randomly pick one.
Scenarios:
* Tom’s lunch card ran out and he felt embarrassed at school.
* Ellie’s friend wants to go and buy new clothes together, but Ellie can’t afford them.
* Ava’s family said no to a school trip because it costs too much.
* Zara’s tablet broke and she needs it for homework, but her family can’t afford a new one right now.
* Juan sees his friend spend a lot of money and is worried about his friend
* All of Kirree's friends have the latest iPhone but she only has a hand-me-down Android. She knows not to raise it with her parents but is worried what this makes her look like.
For each scenario, teams must answer:
* How might this person be feeling?
* What could happen if they don’t talk to anyone about it?
* What could they do? For example, they could use a charity shop, fix something instead of buying new, find a part-time job or choosing a free activity for their friends to do.
* Who could they speak to? They could chat to a friend, a parent or carer, a teacher, a Scout volunteer, a doctor or a charity, such as Childline.
* What could you say to help them feel better?
