Glow Stick Constellations

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Children use glow stick bracelets to recreate constellations on the floor. The glowing shapes help them learn how stars connect to form patterns in the night sky. It’s a fun, hands-on way to explore astronomy while enjoying a creative group activity.

Optional Extra
A screen or projector can be used to show the constellation outlines. This gives the children a clear guide to follow and helps them match their glow stick designs to the real star patterns. It also adds a visual learning element for those who may find it easier to copy from an image.

Outdoor Option
If the night is clear, the activity can be taken outside in a safe, secure area. Children can compare their glowing constellations with the actual stars above, making the experience more magical and memorable. Doing it outdoors also adds a sense of adventure and connection to nature.

Resources

Resources Needed
Glow stick bracelets (enough for each child to make several “stars”)
Constellation reference images (printed sheets, or digital via projector/screen)

A safe, clear indoor floor space (hall, classroom)
Optional: projector or screen to display constellations
Optional: outdoor safe area if doing it under the night sky
