Instructions

1) Explain that there is no word for “hello” or “hi” in Manx, so we have to greet each other depending what time of day it is. Teach the unit how to say “moghrey mie” (good morning), “fastyr mie” (good afternoon / evening) and “oie vie” (good night) in Manx. Soundfiles are available on learnmanx.com/badge Make sure that they know that “mie” and “vie” both mean good, and test their understanding of this by gettng them to call out different words: “what’s the Manx word for “morning”?” – “Moghrey!” etc.
2) Give them different times of day (e.g. “it’s breakfast time”), and ask them what they would say to someone else to greet them.
3) Once they have grasped this, get them to go around the unit, and greet as many people in Manx as they can with the greeting most appropriate for the time of day (most likely “fastyr mie”).
