Description

Practise numbers 1-10, or 1-20 in Manx with this classic activity

Resources

• Scraps of paper, notebooks, or mini whiteboards -OR- the attached Bingo cards (print multiple copies, ensure each participant has a unique version from other participants each round)
• Pens/markers
• A way for the caller to randomly pick numbers 1 - 20 (e.g., written on slips of paper in a hat, using a random number generator that won’t repeat numbers, or on a list).

Instructions

1) As unit leader, take the role of caller, or choose a confident member of the unit to be the caller. The caller prepares numbers 1 – 20 either on slips of paper, on a list to cross off, or on an app.
2) Get the players to choose and write down 8 different numbers, as digits, between 1 and 20. They can draw a grid, or write the numbers in a list.
3) Caller will randomly call out numbers one at a time in Manx. Make sure you/they call clearly, and ideally call out each number twice.
4) Players listen out for their numbers. If they hear a number, they cross it off or circle it. When a player has crossed off all 8 of their numbers, they shout ‘Bingo!’
5) Make sure you / the caller checks the player’s list to make sure their numbers were called.
6) That player wins! You can reset and play again many times as you wish.

Possible variations:
• Team version: The young people could play as pairs or in small groups instead of individually. This could work well for those with less confidence.
• Fast-paced version: If the unit is confident, you could call numbers quickly to keep energy high.
