Tower to the Treetops

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Squirrels work together as one team to build the tallest tower they can using a den-making construction kit. Once complete, they measure how tall their tower is using a measuring tape and record the result. This activity encourages teamwork, problem-solving, coordination, and introduces measuring height in a fun, hands-on way.

Resources

Den-making construction kit (balls/connectors and sticks/poles)
Measuring tape
Paper or flipchart
Pen or marker
Flat, clear floor space

Instructions

Setup
Clear a large area of floor.
Place the den-making kit in the middle so everyone can reach it.
Explain the challenge:
“As a team, we are going to build one tower as tall as we can!”

Activity
Encourage Squirrels to talk to each other and decide how to start.
Adults support but do not lead the build.
If the tower falls, reassure the group and encourage them to try again.
Once the tower is finished (or time is up), everyone steps back.

Measuring
Use the measuring tape to measure from the floor to the top of the tower.
Say the number clearly and let the Squirrels repeat it.
Write the height down where everyone can see it
Ask simple reflection questions:
“Is this taller than you?”
“What helped it stay up?”
“What could we do differently next time?”
