Knowing what an emergency is – and what to do if you’re ever in one – can help save a life. In your groups, look at the pictures provided and talk about whether each one shows
an emergency.
Ask one person to hold up a picture at a time and, if the group decides it is an emergency, everyone shouts together: “Call 999!”
Duration: 15-20 minutes
What you need to do
Step 1
If you ever found yourself in an emergency, it’s important to
know exactly what to do. In your groups, chat about:
• Who you’d need to call
• What you might need to say
• What a call handler may ask you
Next, practise learning your home address. Start by saying it to a friend.
Then talk about who might be able to help you if you were on your own –
a neighbour, a friend, or another trusted adult.
Step 2
To help everyone remember their addresses let's play the Letter Delivery memory game.
Sit in a circle (or two smaller circles if needed).
Your leader pretends to deliver a letter and says:
“I’m going to deliver this letter to someone who lives at…”
If you recognise the address as your own, put your hand up, run around
the circle, and sit back down. Keep going until everyone has had a turn.
To make sure your groups remembers their address after the evening
has finished play this game throughout the term
