Description
Some fun ways to learn about water safety. ?
Resources
- Rope for rescuing.
- A long stick (soft-edged for safety).
- Space to set up the activity safely.
Instructions
1. Begin with a brief discussion about the basics of water safety. Ask Beavers where it's safe to swim, why certain places are dangerous, and what to do if they see someone in trouble.
2. Set up a safe space to simulate a pond or lake using ropes or markers.
3. Select one Beaver to pretend to be "drowning" (this is acted out safely with no real danger).
4. The other Beavers will practice life-saving skills by throwing a rope or using a long stick to 'rescue' their friend. Ensure they learn the importance of laying flat on the ground to reach safely, avoiding putting themselves in danger.
5. Discuss again how to stay safe near water, reinforcing that they should never attempt to rescue someone without adult help.
