Description

An activity for guides to learn tracking symbols and how to follow them

Resources

- Sticks and/or Stones
- Paper
- Pens
- Printed tracking symbols guides

Instructions

1) Divide the guides into small groups or patrols.

2) Each group is then allocated an area (indoors or outdoors), stones and/or sticks, tracking symbols guide, paper and pens. If they run out of resources they can ask a leader for more.

3) Each group then has 10 minutes to design a trail using tracking symbols made from the stones and sticks. They can use the pens and paper if they want to draw obstacles etc and the tracking symbol guide to get the correct symbols.

4) Once done each group moves to a different group's area and all the tracking guides are removed (they can have them back if they find it too difficult without).

- They should spend no more than 5-10 minutes per track.
- They have 30 minutes to do as many different tracks as they can.

5) Once a track is completed they should write down in words or verbally explain the track designed by the other group to a leader to make sure they understood the symbols.

6) Clear up once done (Remember Leave No Trace).
