IGG Guides GCE Activity - Creative Conservation
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
This activity encourages Guides to take an interest in endangered species and shows them how to advocate for their conservation through co-operation and creativity.
Resources
• Camera OR A3 Paper
• Markers
Instructions
1. Go outside during your Unit meeting or during a Day Out/Camp
2. In their Patrols, ask Guides to choose a small animal, such as an insect, bird, or rodent that deserves to be recognised and protected; the more unusual, the better!
3. Instruct them to observe its behaviour for a while and take notes/videos of their chosen animal doing different things.
4. Ask each Patrol to give a few reasons why they chose their animal, and to name some things that would put their animal in danger i.e. human or natural disturbances.
5. Come together and each Patrol showcases their chosen animal through their videos/posters.
6. Discuss whether the presentations changed your views on the animals. Ask the Guides if they think it’s important to record wildlife in their natural habitats.
7. If possible, you could take it further by transforming your film into a short documentary, explaining why each chosen animal is important, if it is endangered, and why we should love and protect it.
