1. Reach out to an organisation or a group in your community that supports elderly people. This could be a nursing home, library, hobby group etc.
2. Organise and host a a crafting session with the residents/members, exchanging simple crafts that use everyday household objects with them.
3. You could continue with more crafting sessions. Ask if there are any crafts the older people would like to share with your Unit.
Examples of Simple Crafts:
a) Potato printing - carefully cut a potato in half, and then carve a shape into one half. Dip it into some paint and print onto paper.
b) Bracelet making - Tie a knot at the end of a piece of yarn/string, then thread beads onto it. Tie another knot at the end to make a bracelet.
c) Cotton bud printing - Using a marker/pen draw a vague tree trunk and branches on a piece of paper. Pick 3-4 cotton buds and dip them into paint, then use them to stamp leaves on your tree.
d) Tinfoil engraving - Carefully cut a square of tinfoil. Fold it in half, and then fold it again. Using a ballpoint pen, draw a design on the tinfoil. When you flip it over, you should have an engraved picture.
e) Or feel free to come up with your own simple craft idea(s)! Make sure to keep the needs and abilities of the people you are working with in mind.
