Brownie Camping Option 04: Tent Parts (Cooperative Game)
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Help the Brownies learn the main parts of a tent through a cooperative, indoor activity.
How it works: Children match word cards to picture cards, discuss what each part does, and then arrange the cards to ‘assemble’ a tent.

Instructions
Preparation
• Print and cut the word cards and picture cards.
• Make sure you cut off the top of the picture cards where the tent parts are shown (this full sheet is a cheat sheet for leaders)
• Keep sets in separate envelopes. Optionally laminate for reuse.
o Room setup: Create a work area for each small group (3–6 children).
o Place cards face up.
o Timing: 15–20 minutes.
o Warm up (3), Matching (7), Tent layout (5), Review (5).
Facilitation Tips
• Prompt with questions like:
• ‘Which part keeps rain out?’
• ‘Which part anchors the tent?’
• ‘Which line must stay tight?’
• Encourage turn taking and gentle debate.
Differentiation:
• Assign ‘card captains’ to read;
• use picture only set for emerging readers; add stretch questions for confident learners (e.g., where should guy lines angle?).
