Description

Pointillism is a Neo-Impressionist painting technique (c. 1886) developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, using small, distinct dots of pure color applied in patterns to form an image.

Scouts will attempt to create their own paintings in the same style.

Cardstock or Heavy Paper

Instructions

1. Hand out equipment
2. Put a small amount of a few colours of paint on a paper plate.
3. Instead of brushing paint, everyone adds dots of color. It’s meditative, requires zero drawing skill, and looks incredible when finished.

Tips for success

The "No Brushes" Rule: Remind them that for it to be Pointillism (like Georges Seurat), they cannot swipe the cotton bud. It must be "Dot, Dot, Dot."

The "White Space" Trick: Explain that dots further apart look lighter, and dots close together look darker.
