A team competition practising methods of communication

Resources

- A prize (e.g. 6 packs of stickers)
- Each team needs a leader with a mobile phone, and a pen and paper
- In addition, another leader needs a 'master' phone
- A torch for each team

Instructions

- Split into teams of approx 5
- Tell the teams there is a prize for the team that completes all the steps first. To get your first instruction, call the number on the blackboard (which is the number for the 'master' phone).
- Phone calls: When the master phone receives a phone call, they say: “Send me a text message to get your next instruction.”
- Text messages: When the master phone receives a text message, they reply: “To find out where the prize is, use morse code to send me the words PLEASE HELP”
- Morse code: The teams have to send a message to the master leader. When they receive the first message, they send the message “In the kitchen”. Because multiple teams will end up messaging them, they end up sending this on a loop.
- The winning team is the first to go to the kitchen to get the prize.
