The Brief

"You are a local influencer with 60 seconds to convince your Member of Parliament (MP) to take action on one environmental issue. You aren't just complaining; you are proposing a solution. Your video must be professional, persuasive, and ‘Scout-like’ (bold but polite)."

The "Three-Part" Script Structure

To keep the videos concise and effective, tell the Scouts to follow this Hook, Meat, Action formula:

The Hook (10s): Introduce yourself and the problem.

“Hi [MP Name], I’m Sam from the 1st [Town] Scouts. I’m worried about the amount of unrecyclable plastic in our local school lunches.”

The Meat (30s):

Why does it matter? Use a fact from tonight.

“We learned tonight that a single plastic bottle can take 450 years to decompose. In our town alone, we’re throwing away thousands every week.”

The Action (20s):

What do you want them to do?
“We want you to support the new Plastic Reduction Bill in Parliament. Will you meet with us to discuss how our town can lead the way?”

? Example Topics for Scouts

If they are stuck for an idea, give them these "Video Prompts":

The "Digital Carbon" Pitch: "Ask the government to require data centers in the UK to be powered by 100% renewable energy."

The "Fast Fashion" Pitch: "Ask for a small 'sustainability tax' on ultra-cheap clothing brands to fund textile recycling."

The "Local Habitats" Pitch: "Ask for more 'Green Corridors' or wildflower verges along the main roads in [Your Town] to help bees."

The "Active Travel" Pitch: "Ask for safer bike lanes so Scouts can cycle to their meetings instead of being dropped off in cars."

? Production Tips for the Scouts

Background Matters: Don't film against a messy wall. Use the "Promise Tree" they made earlier or a Scout flag as a backdrop.

Lighting: Make sure the light is in front of your face, not behind you (no silhouettes!).

Audio: Get close to the phone. If it’s noisy in the hall, one Scout can use their shirt as a "windshield" over the microphone.

Uniform: Wear your Scout scarf! It shows you represent a global movement of 57 million people
