Description

A high‑energy, movement‑based game that teaches fairness through play, not talking.

YP experience how hard it is for farmers to get a fair price — and how Fair Trade changes the whole system.

Resources

Crop Cards (see attached documents)
Cones or tape to mark zones
2–4 bibs or armbands (for Fair Trade Inspectors)

Instructions

Mark three areas:

Farm Zone (where crops start)
Market Zone (where crops must be delivered)
Middlemen Zone (in the middle)

Roles

Farmers (most Scouts)
Middlemen (3–4 leaders or older Scouts)

Round 1 (Unfair Trade)

Split the group into teams of 6 to 8 Scouts - these teams start the game in the Farm Zone.
A leader in the farm zone each Scout; a random card (which they should not look at)
The farmers attempt to get their crops across the Market Zone
Only 1 farmer from each team is allowed in the Market Zone at once
If a farmer is tagged by a middleman; he must give up his crop
At the end of the game; each team should tot up the value of the cards in the Market Zone

Round 2 (Fair Trade)

Play the game again.

This time if a Scout is tagged by a Middleman; they get a chance to keep their crop by playing a game of Rock Paper Scissors against the Middleman. If they win; they can make their way to the Market Zone unhindered.
