Ship to Shore

Instructions

Ship to Shore is a fast-paced, no-equipment, elimination, or action-reaction game where players follow nautical commands from the Leader (the Captain). Players run to designated sides of a playing area — ‘Ship’ or ‘Shore’ — and perform actions such as saluting (‘Captain’s coming’) to avoid being the last one out.
Instructions
Setup: Designate one side of the play area as ‘Ship’ and the opposite side as ‘Shore.’ Players start in the middle.
Commands: The Leader calls out commands and players must act accordingly. The last player to complete the action or reach the side is eliminated (or simply acts being eliminated for fun).
Key movements:
Ship: Run to one side.
Shore: Run to the opposite side.
Captain’s coming: All stop, stand at attention, and salute. Players cannot move until ‘at ease’ is called.
Person overboard: Pair up, one goes on all fours and the other places a foot on their back, looking for the lost sailor.
Scrub the deck: Crouch down and mime scrubbing the floor.
Up periscope: Lie on their backs with one leg raised, twisting the foot.
Climb the rigging: Mimic climbing a rope.
Hit the deck: Lie on their stomachs.
Key tips for the Leader:
• Trick the players: Point to the ‘shore’ while shouting ‘ship’ to test listening skills.
• Rapid fire: Increase the speed of commands to increase chaos and fun.
• Variations: Include ‘shark’ (run to ship for safety) or ‘storm’ (spin around).
