Week 2 - Plant pot scarecrows

Leaf names and pics (from 022.C.W09.F2F)

Week 3 - Bug hotels
Each Cub to bring:
A clean disposable drinks bottle or a tin can (with no sharp edges)
Some bamboo canes or any hollow stemmed twigs
Leaders:
Sticks/twigs/canes
Grass/straw
Spare drinks bottles/tins
Scissors
Secateurs
Knife (for cutting/making holes in bottles)
Something to make holes in bottles and tins (to thread twine through)
Twine
Sharpies

Week 4 - Litter pick
Litter pickers (YPs to bring own, but some in Bosun’s)
Appropriate clothing - long trousers and sleeves are recommended
Rubbish bags (per group: one for recycling and one for general waste, bring a few spare)
High vis jackets - one each

Week 5 - Environmental Conservation
Facts About Recycling sheet - 1 per team
Sorting cards - 1 set per team

Week 6 - Bee keeper
No resources (unless you need any for games after)

Week 7 - Finish Nature and Gardener badges
Wood
Fire lighter
Water buckets
Fire blanket
Toasting sticks
Marshmallows
Biscuits

Instructions

See attachments for week-by-week detailed instructions, but in summary:

Week 1 - Planting
Plant 3 different types of seeds (we used veg and herbs).
Create log books to record visits for Nature badge.
Create lollypop plant labels.

Week 2 - Plant pot scarecrows
Base 1 - Make little scarecrows out of plant pots.
Base 2 - Learn what 3 different gardening tools are, how to use them, and identify what task they would be used for.

Week 3 - Bug hotels
Make simple bug hotels out of plastic bottles/tins and twigs etc

Week 4 - Litter pick
Pick litter in the local area

Week 5 - Environmental Conservation
Fill in the gaps on the sheet to learn some facts about recycling.
Sort the cards into the correct categories to learn what can be recycled, what could be reused, and what goes to landfill.
Quiz - Assign an answer to a wall - cubs to run to their selected answer

Week 6 - Bee keeper
Invite a local bee keeper down to talk about bees.

Week 7 - Finish Nature and Gardener badges
Cubs should bring their nature log books back. Discuss what they observed since they planted their seeds.
