Description

The girls explored gender barriers in leadership by discussing examples from school, Guiding, sports, and politics. Together they identified ways to challenge stereotypes and encourage equal opportunities. Each girl then wrote a personal statement describing how she will empower others and help create a more inclusive and equal community.

Instructions

Gender Equality Activity (2 Girls – 30 Minutes)

Goal

Explore gender barriers in leadership and create a personal statement.

What you'll need

* Paper
* Pens
* Sticky notes (optional)

1. Leadership Chat (10 minutes)

Take turns discussing these questions:

* Have you ever seen someone treated differently because they were a boy or a girl?
* Can girls be leaders in school, sports, Guiding, and politics? Why?
* What barriers might stop girls from becoming leaders?
* How can we encourage everyone to have a chance to lead?

2. Barrier vs Solution (10 minutes)

Fold a piece of paper in half.

Left side: Write down gender barriers, for example:

* Girls aren't always encouraged to lead sports teams.
* People think some jobs are only for boys.
* Girls may not feel confident to speak up.

Right side: Write a solution beside each barrier, for example:

* Encourage girls to try leadership roles.
* Challenge stereotypes.
* Support everyone's ideas and opinions.
* Celebrate women leaders.

Discuss your answers together.

3. Personal Statement (10 minutes)

Each girl writes and shares a personal statement.

Example:

> *I believe everyone deserves an equal opportunity to be a leader, no matter their gender. I will encourage others to be confident, include everyone, and challenge unfair stereotypes whenever I see them. By supporting others, I can help create a community where everyone feels valued and able to succeed.*

Finish by sharing one action each of you will take this week to help break down gender barriers.
