Delivering Joy 4/4: Reflecting on Our Impact and Inspiring Others

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Young people will reflect on their participation in the Delivering Joy campaign, considering what they have learned about their community, the difference their actions have made, and how they have developed through helping others. They will then create a way of sharing their experience with others to raise awareness of the issue and encourage more people to get involved in supporting their community. The Delivering Joy campaign helps provide Christmas gifts to people who may otherwise go without, working with local schools, care homes, charities and refuges.

Instructions

1. Gather the group and remind everyone about the community need they identified at the start of the project.
2. Explain that this session focuses on learning from their experience and sharing their message with others.
3. Ask young people to discuss:
-What did we learn about our community?
- Why do some people need extra support?
- How did our gifts help make people's lives better?
- How might the recipients feel when they receive their gifts?
- Encourage everyone to reflect on their own development by asking:
- What new skills did you use?
- How did you work as a team?
- How did helping others make you feel?
- What have you learned about being an active member of your community?
4. As a group, identify other ways they could support people in the community in the future. Record all ideas and discuss which could become future projects.
5. Explain that raising awareness can help even more people. Challenge the group to help others understand why this issue matters.
6. Create one or more of the following:
- A display for the meeting place.
- A poster explaining the Delivering Joy campaign.
- A short article for the Group newsletter.
- A social media post for parents and carers.
- A presentation to another section.
Include:
- The community need that was identified.
- What actions the group took.
- The difference those actions will make.
- How others can support similar community projects.
7. Invite young people to share their finished work with the rest of the group.
8. Finish by celebrating the impact the group has had and discussing how small actions can create positive change within a community.
