Description

Bring the classic arcade game to life as you become Pac-Man on a giant floor maze! Dodge the Ghosts, collect as many dots as you can, and see if you can top the leaderboard before you’re caught.

Masking Tape
Beanbags, Cones or other small items

Instructions

Before the session, use masking tape to create a giant Pac-Man style maze on the floor. Include plenty of corridors, corners and dead ends to make the game more exciting.
Scatter cones, beanbags or other small objects throughout the maze. These are Pac-Man’s ‘dots’ to collect.
Choose one child to be Pac-Man (give them a bib) and one or two children to be the Ghosts. The ghosts start in the centre of the maze, Pac-Man at the edge. Everyone else should wait outside of the maze for their turn.
On ‘Go!’, Pac-Man races around the maze, staying within the taped pathways, collecting as many dots as possible.
At the same time, the Ghosts chase Pac-Man around the maze, also staying within the taped pathways. If a Ghost tags Pac-Man, the round ends immediately.
Count how many dots Pac-Man managed to collect before being caught and record their score.
Return all the dots to the maze, rotate the players so a new child becomes Pac-Man (and new Ghosts if desired), then play again.
Continue until everyone has had a turn as Pac-Man. The child who collects the most dots before being caught is the winner.

Ways to Adapt the Game

Power Pellets: Place four larger beanbags around the maze. If Pac-Man collects one, the Ghosts must freeze for 5 seconds.
Slow it Down!: To make the game easier, insist that those playing hop around the maze. This should slow things down a little.
Team Ghosts: Use three or four Ghosts for an extra challenge with larger groups.
Time Attack: Instead of ending when tagged, give Pac-Man 60 seconds to collect as many dots as possible while avoiding the Ghosts.
Silent Ghosts: Ghosts are not allowed to speak, making it harder for them to work together and corner Pac-Man.
