Instructions

The Paccar Landmark Code-Breaker
Time Allocation: 60 Minutes (10 min briefing, 40 min tracking, 10 min debrief)

Group Size: Patrols of 4–6 Scouts
Equipment: One pen and a clue sheet per patrol (you can write these on scrap paper or a whiteboard at camp in 5 minutes).

1. The Setup (10 Minutes)
Explain that patrols must navigate around the site using clues to find specific checkpoints.
At each checkpoint, they won't take a photo; instead, they must find a hidden code word, number, or answer written or placed near that landmark.
Set a strict return time (e.g., 45 minutes from go) and lay down the standard boundary rules for the site.

2. The Clue Sheet (40 Minutes)
Give each patrol the following list of riddles/locations to track down across the 67-acre site:

A. The Welcome Post: Head to the main site entrance or noticeboard.

Question:

What is the main vehicle speed limit sign posted around the campsite? (Write down the number)

B. The High Wire Zone: Find where the twin zip wires or high ropes start.

Question:

Count how many vertical wooden support poles hold up the main gateway/structure here.

C. The Deep Woods: Navigate into one of the woodland camping plots.

Question:

Find a fallen tree with a diameter thicker than a Scout's waist. What kind of bark does it have? (e.g., smooth, rough, peeling).

D. The Trail Marker: Locate one of the official wooden trail posts or directional signs.

Question:

Which direction (or color arrow) points toward the main facilities/reception?

E. The Giants: Find a cluster of three trees growing very close together.

Question: Have your entire patrol link hands around all three at once—did your circle fit, or were you too small? (Leader signature required or write "PASSED").

F. Camp HQ: Return near the center of camp. Question: What is the name of the nearest major road or landmark marked on the site map?

3. Scoring & Wrap Up (10 Minutes)
Collect the answer sheets back at base.
Instead of who finished first, award points for accuracy (getting all the answers right) and teamwork (staying tightly together as a patrol the entire time).
