Create a Team Cheer

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

Work together to create and perform a positive team cheer. Participants use words, actions and sounds to encourage others, build confidence and practise teamwork.

Resources

Slips of paper
Pens
A bag or container
Flipchart paper or whiteboard
Optional: pom-poms, music or props

Instructions

1. Begin by discussing what a cheer is and where participants might have seen or heard one.
2. Talk about how cheering can help encourage, support and motivate people.
3. As a group, brainstorm positive words and phrases that could be used in a cheer.
4. Before the activity, write different cheer elements on slips of paper and place them in a bag. Examples:
- Clapping
- Stamping
- A repeated phrase
- Calling out team names
- Singing
- A simple action or movement
5. Divide participants into small teams.
6. Each team draws one or more slips from the bag and must include those elements in their cheer.
7. Give teams time to create and practise their cheer.
8. Each team performs their cheer to the rest of the group.
9. Encourage applause and positive feedback after each performance.

Adapt the challenge to suit the age and confidence of the group. Younger participants may need a leader to help structure ideas, while older groups can create longer cheers with more complex actions. Focus on inclusion and positivity, ensuring all participants contribute in some way.
